FORGIVE AS THE LORD FORGAVE YOU
Colossians 3:13-14 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. (NIV)
We should not have offense we cannot forgive. But at times we find ourselves in a situation where forgiveness seems difficult. If we apply our emotions and how hurt we are, it will be difficult to forgive. But if we consider how God forgave us then forgiving others would be easy.
There are things to note in our opening scripture; Bear with each other; forgive one another; grievance against someone; forgive as the Lord forgave you; put on love.
To bear with someone means to tolerate. If we cannot tolerate we cannot forgive. Then it says forgive one another; this means that we talk our differences over and forgive each other -- I forgive you, you forgive me. Next you remove the grievance from your heart. Forgive as the Lord forgave you, this means by remission. Forgive and remember it no more as though it was never committed. Then the highest of all, put on love. When you put on love you will not offend anyone or be offended by anyone.
Don't say the harm the fellow cost you is too much that you won't forgive. Forgiveness is a must. The word of God is not suggesting that you forgive. He commands you to forgive. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
How did the Lord forgave you? He forgave you without keeping the records, He absorbed you of the consequences, He blotted out your wrongs as though they were never committed and He remembers them no more. This is how you should forgive.
Hebrews 10:17 Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more."
PRAYER
Father I thank You for forgiving my sins in Christ Jesus not counting my sins against me. Your forgiveness has enabled me to forgive. I forgive anyone who offended me and remember their offences no more, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
