Daily devotional Pastor Stanley 3rd OCTOBER 2026   BE ON YOUR GUARD Scripture — 2 Peter 3:17-18 (NIV) "Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen."   This is Peter's last letter, and he ends like a watchman who has done his duty. He does not say "so that you may not lose your salvation." He says your secure position — the standing God has given you is secure. What he warns against is being carried away from the enjoyment and stability of what is already yours. A ship at anchor is safe in the harbour; the danger is not the anchor breaking but the cable being dragged by a current the crew refused to notice. So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him."   Peter has just described the old order melting in the heat — and then comes the word that changes everything: But. The story of this world does not end in fire; it ends in renewal. God has promised, and His promise is more substantial than the heavens that will disappear. He is not building a repair job on the old creation; He is bringing forth an entirely new one — and its defining feature is not gold, or glory, or even greatness. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat."   Peter writes to believers, not to unbelievers. Notice this carefully — the call to holy and godly living is not given to earn salvation, but because salvation is certain and the world around you is temporary.  JUST A TIP FROM CHAPTER ONE A Wife Does Not Come to a Man; A Man Goes for a Wife There is a popular belief in many Christian circles—subtle, unspoken, but deeply influential—that if a man simply waits long enough, prays hard enough, and stays faithful enough, God will one day drop a wife into his lap. This belief sounds spiritual. It sounds like trust. It sounds like faith. But in reality, it is often nothing more than sanctified passivity. Let me say it plainly: a wife does not come to a man. A man goes for a wife. Throughout Scripture, we see this pattern again and again. When Abraham wanted a wife for his son Isaac, did he wait for a woman to appear at his tent? No. He sent his servant on a deliberate journey to find her (Genesis 24). When Jacob needed a wife, did he sit in his father's house waiting for a sign? No. He arose, traveled to a distant land, and labored for the woman he desired (Genesis 29). When Boaz took notice of Ruth, did he wait for her to propose to him? No. H...

If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. (NIV) Beloved, there is a profound truth that many Christians live beneath: you are a rightful heir of Abraham's blessing. When God called Abraham, He didn't just bless a man—He established a covenant that would flow through generations and eventually reach you. Galatians 3:14 declares that Christ redeemed us so that "the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus."   Think about this: Every promise God made to Abraham—prosperity, protection, fruitfulness, divine favor, and being a father of many nations—is now accessible to you through faith in Christ.   INTRODUCTION There is a question that every young man eventually faces, whether he voices it aloud or carries it silently in his heart: How do I find the woman I am meant to marry? Some men answer that question by waiting. They sit still, hoping that one day a wife will somehow appear — as if God were in the business of dropping fully formed marriages into the laps of passive men. Others answer it by rushing. They chase every pretty face, give their hearts away carelessly, and end up wounded and confused. And still others answer it by ignoring it altogether, burying themselves in work, in hobbies, or in fear, until the years quietly slip away. But Scripture gives a very different answer. Proverbs 18:22 declares, "He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD." Notice the word finds. It is an active word.
