MAKE EFFORT TO ADD UP

2 Peter 1:5-7 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. (NIV)

In our Christian walk growth is essential to the level of success we would make in life. In fact, our primary success is spiritual growth, which eventually leads to success in other areas.

Our theme scripture listed virtues which results from spiritual growth and are also essential to spiritual growth. And implore us not to stop at any but to add up every of them. We keep adding up until we have them all operational within us. It says "make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love."

Love crowns it all. Love is the proof that you have all others. When you are able to love everyone unconditionally irrespective of who and how they are, then you have added up these requirements. Love is the nature of the Christian as it is the nature of God. But expressing love is much more than feeling and emotion, it is the deliberate expression of the will to do what is right, just, fair, loving and kind. Loving is a decision not based on the object but the subject's will.

There is a reason we are asked to make every effort to add to our faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. It is because these will keep us away from being ineffective and unproductive in our knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 1:8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

God expects us to be effective and productive in our knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. In other words He expects us to produce results through our knowledge of Him. When we add up all of these virtues they will make us effective and productive with the Word.

CONFESSION

I choose and consciously make every effort to add to my faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love, and thereby being effective and productive with the Gospel. Amen.
