A TREE OF LIFE

Proverbs 3:18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed.

Wisdom is a tree that gives life. To better understand this, let's imagine there is a tree that produces money as its fruit. You just go there and pluck money. In the same way, imagine a tree that literally gives life to people, place, thing and circumstance. If anything were dead that tree could bring it back to life. The Bible says wisdom is that tree of life. 

Anything that gives life doesn't only give life but also sustains and nourishes. Wisdom gives life, sustains and nourishes. 

TAKE HOLD OF WISDOM

Proverbs 3:18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed.

Even though wisdom is a tree of life it is only to those who take hold of her. And those who hold her fast, who never let her go will be blessed. Take hold of wisdom and hold her fast, that's where the life and blessings are. 

How do you take hold of wisdom? Through meditation. How do you hold her fast? By living in the light you have gotten when you meditated. 
When you meditate on wisdom (God's word) illumination comes into your spirit, light dawns on you. You literally see by your spirit what is yours and those things that are pertain to you. You hold them fast and make them yours by walking in the light of it. 

When you meditate on God's Word you see yourself and what pertains to you. Don't forget what you saw or let it out of your mind, no! Take hold of it and hold it fast, then do it, walking in the light of it. That's exactly what James says here. James 1:23-25 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it —not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it —they will be blessed in what they do.

A SOOTHING TONGUE

Proverbs 15:4 The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.

A soothing tongue is a tongue that speaks wise words (wisdom). Wisdom is the word of God. The word of God is the truth of God. A soothing tongue speaks God's truth. A perverse tongue speaks falsehood (against God's truth) and it crushes (demoralizes) the spirit of a man, making him uninspired and unmotivated. 

Train your tongue to be soothing by talking God's word always. You don't have to have a problem before speaking God's Word, make a habit of talking God's Word deliberately. As you do, your tongue is conditioned to give life. 

SPEAK WHOLESOME AND HELPFUL WORDS ONLY
Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

A tree of life should give life only and always. Not unwholesome and destructive words that do not benefit those who listen. Those who listen to your words shouldn't be at their detriment but at their blessings.

Let your tongue speak only words that are helpful to others -- building them up and meeting their needs. Wisdom in your mouth is a tree of life. Keep speaking wisdom and give life to people, places, things and circumstances around you.
