IF THE LORD DOES NOT HELP YOU
2 Kings 6:26-27 As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried to him, "Help me, my lord the king!" The king replied, "If the LORD does not help you, where can I get help for you? From the threshing floor? From the winepress?" (NIV)
Often when we find ourselves in trouble and in need of help we turn to men. That was the case with a certain woman in the Bible who cried out to the King of Israel for help. The King was the highest personality and in the highest position of authority. The woman believed that he could help her. But the king's response was profound. 2 Kings 6:26-27 As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried to him, "Help me, my lord the king!" The king replied, "If the LORD does not help you, where can I get help for you? From the threshing floor? From the winepress?"
Simply put, it is only the Lord who has the willingness and ability to help. Men only help whom God has helped. If the Lord does not help you no one can or be willing to help you. If you see a man being helped by men, he is a man helped by God.
Stop looking to men for help. Look to God alone. When He helps you He will condition men, circumstances and events to help you.
The Psalmist knew this well enough. He said in Psalms 121:1-2 "I lift up my eyes to the mountains — where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth."
It's important you know where your help comes from, not where it comes through. The water which passes through a hose is not from the hose but from a river or stream. Help comes only from God but through men, angels, events and circumstances.
If the Lord does not help you no matter how willing and able men may be they still can't help you. So fix your eyes on God.
PRAYER
Precious Father I recognize that you alone are my help. My help comes from only you. You may choose to use any channel but you are my help. I look to you Father, my help comes from you, the Maker of heaven and earth, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
