ABRAHAM'S SEED
Galatians 3:16 The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say "and to seeds," meaning many people, but "and to your seed," meaning one person, who is Christ. (NIV)
Reading the account of God's promises of blessing to Abraham in the old testament one might think it was limited to his physical descendants; Isaac, Jacob and the Israelites. In the new testament, however, a great light has been revealed. The seed God referred to in the old testament was Christ. Genesis 22:18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
Christ is the seed of Abraham. And that's interesting, because Isaac was the physical seed but God was looking at the spiritual seed, Christ. Galatians 3:16 The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say "and to seeds," meaning many people, but "and to your seed," meaning one person, who is Christ.
Today everyone who is in Christ is a seed of Abraham. You are Abraham's seed.
Galatians 3:27-29 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Did you know that Jesus is not actually enjoying the blessings of being Abraham's seed right now in heaven? He is not! Only we who are Abraham's seed here on earth can enjoy the blessings. Even though Christ is the sole Seed of Abraham all of us who are clothed with Christ are Abraham's seed. Amazingly we are not Abraham's seeds even though we are many, we are Abraham's seed. We are one individual in Christ.
We are heirs of the promise God made to Abraham. What exactly does the promise entail? Genesis 22:18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
In Christ all nations are blessed with salvation. And salvation is everything. In salvation you are delivered from sin and brought out of darkness, you are made whole, complete not lacking anything, and then you preserved in that state of wholeness and completion. This is the real deal of the promise God made to Abraham. God preached this Gospel in advance to Abraham. Galatians 3:8 Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: "All nations will be blessed through you."
And that blessing is through the Seed, Christ. Not only are we blessed being the seed of Abraham we are blessing to all men. Through our preaching of the Gospel men are saved; delivered, made whole and preserved.
PRAYER
Thank You Father that I am the seed of Abraham through Christ. All the blessings regarding the promises are fully fulfilled unto me and I am walking in them. Not only am I blessed I am also a blessing to my world. Amen.
