BE RICH TOWARD GOD
Luke 12:21 "This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God." (NIV)
In Luke 12:16-21 the Lord Jesus told a parable of a certain man whose field yielded abundant harvest. He decided to build large barn to store his crops and take his time to enjoy life, eat, drink and merry. "But God said to him, ’You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ Like 12:20.
The problem was not that the man wanted to eat the fruit of his labour but that he didn't recognize nor acknowledge or thank God and give Him offering of thanks as the One who made the ground to produce such abundance and as the Giver of his life. He was not rich towards God.
You are rich toward God when you give for the work of God, for soul winning, for church projects etc. Doing this is expanding the Kingdom of God. Such giving is recorded in heaven. Every Christian has an account in heaven where their given for the Kingdom work is credited.
Matthew 6:19-20 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
You store up treasures for yourself in heaven when you give for the work of God.
Another important aspect of giving is giving to the needy. He who gives to a needy person lends to God.
Proverbs 19:17 Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.
When it says the poor it actually means the needy. Don't wait until you see someone called the poor. When you find someone who is in need help him, you are lending to the Lord and He will reward you. When you do this you are rich towards God. These are the things to do with your resources not self indulgence. When your land yield more increase your giving and be richer towards God.
PRAYER
Dear Father I recognize and acknowledge that all I have comes from you. You are the giver of my life and the One who makes my plans and endeavours successful. I willingly yield my resources for the work of the Kingdom and to bless the needy, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
