HE PROVIDES A WAY OUT
1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation[c] has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (NIV)
Trials and temptation are not the same. Trials are troubles which test your faith. If your faith fails the test it makes you ineffective in the things of God. While temptation presents you an offer to go against God's will. Temptation offers you pleasure and glory. Trials presents you with troubles and persecutions. And it is a test of faith.
James 1:2-3 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
Trials test faith. Temptations test loyalty to God's word.
Jesus was tempted by the devil. All the temptations was of pleasure and glory. But Jesus had a way out; it was through the word (what is written).
Matthew 4:1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
In verse 3 satan tempted Jesus to turn stone into bread (pleasure). In verse 4 Jesus answered, "It is written: ’Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’"
All the temptations with which he tempted Jesus was of pleasure and glory. And each time Jesus responded "it is written."
God provides a way out of temptation, and that way is "what is written." When you are tempted He provides a way out through what is written. When Jesus was being tempted He did not cry out to God. He simply said "it is written."
You have to know what is written and declare it when faced with temptation. That is God's provision out of temptation.
PRAYER
Father I thank You that your written word is readily available to me, and that through the Spirit you have granted me understanding of what is written. As the Holy Spirit brings to my mind what is written I declare it and have my way out of every temptation, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
