GUARD AGAINST THE FLESH
Galatians 5:24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. (NIV)
Man's real challenge is living beyond the flesh. The flesh is the human senses with its passions and desires that are contrary to God's righteousness. Man is a spirit. Man won't have challenge to use his faith, walk in God's will, walk in riches and health if he were not in a human body. The fight of faith is actually a fight to live beyond the flesh.
Reading the works, manifestations or acts of the flesh in Galatians 5:19-21 makes it clear that all the wrong things man expresses are not from his spirit. His spirit is holy and perfect, ready and willing to do God's will but the flesh is weak and unwilling. Galatians 5:19-21 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
When these things listed above don't find expression through you, then you are actually living above the flesh.
Our theme scripture says "Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires." But why then do some christians still find themselves being controlled by the flesh? The answer is in Galatians 5:16, So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
The way to guard against the flesh is to walk by the Spirit. To walk by the Spirit is to walk by the Word, which is walking by faith. If you would guard against the flesh by being sensitive to and following the leading of the Holy Spirit you would find out that all the negativities that happen in life are removed far from you. Give attention to the Holy Spirit and you will literally live above the impulses and desires of the flesh.
CONFESSION
I have been crucified with Christ, and have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires, therefore I refuse the dictates of the flesh. I walk by the Spirit, walking in the Word and will of God living the good life which God prearranged for me, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
