THE COMFORT OF THE SCRIPTURES

Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. (KJV)

Everything that was written in the Bible was written for our learning that is what the above verse says. So that by studying and learning about the characters of the Bible (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Samuel, David, etc), and the challenges they faced, the circumstances that surrounded them we might gain patience and comfort. In other words what we learn from them should give us patience and comfort.

Take for example Abraham. Who had no son until he was about a hundred years old. At seventy-five years old God promised him a son but that only happened twenty five years later. He waited patiently all that time. That's faith. We could learn from that that it takes faith to wait. 

How about David? At seventeen years old God anointed him to be a king by Samuel the Prophet. But he only became king thirteen years after at the age of thirty. In the space of those years before he became king he had many battles he fought and won. He had king saul to face amongst other enemies. From David we learnt that God's anointing doesn't separate or exempt you from challenges and battles of life but that it empowers you to win over them.

So you see, through the scriptures we learn patience, comfort, obedience, faith, peace, blessings amongst others. This should inspire you to study the Scriptures voraciously.

PRAYER

Father I thank You for giving us the Holy Scriptures by which we learn your word and the characters displayed in the Bible. Through these we are encouraged, comforted and blessed. We will continue to grow by your word as we learn through the inspiration and revelation of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

(NIV) The Apostle Paul writing to the Church in Philippi, said they should rejoice in the Lord always. He didn't say they should rejoice in themselves but in the Lord. Chapter 2 Episode 2 LOVE FULFILS THE LAW Romans 13:8-10 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.
