GIVING IS A GRACE
2 Corinthians 8:7 But since you excel in everything —in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you —see that you also excel in this grace of giving. (NIV)
Even though as Christians we are a giving people there is something called the grace of giving. It is an unction of the Spirit working in and through a Christian. Giving to the work of God is an outworking of our love for God's Kingdom. Giving to people is an outworking of God's kindness expressed through us.
Apostle Paul's statement in our opening verse concerning the Corinthian church implies that they excelled in everything —in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in love, but were deficient in the grace of giving. He encouraged them to excel in the grace of giving. Do you know why? Their prosperity depended on it.
You would find Christians who are excellent in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in love, in morality, in the demonstration of the power of the Spirit. But are so broke financially. Do you know why? It is your giving that actually make your riches in Christ to manifest.
Do you have to pray to receive this grace of giving? The Apostle Paul did not ask the church to pray for it. Rather he instructed them, "see that you also excel in this grace of giving."
He said "see that", in other words, take heed, give attention to it, consciously do it. Deliberately practise giving and as you do, that unction or grace of giving will become operational in you.
PRAYER
Father I thank You for your manifold and indescribable graces. As I excel in many graces -- faith, speech, knowledge, earnestness, love, I take heed to, and deliberately practise and excel in the Grace of giving, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
