IT IS ABOUT ETERNAL LIFE

John 3:14-15 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him." (NIV)

When the Israelites grumbled against God and Moses in the wilderness God sent a venomous snake which bit and killed some of them. When they confessed their sins to God before Moses and repented, God told Moses to make a bronze snake and hang it on a pole that whoever got bitten by a snake and look at the bronze snake would live.

Numbers 21:9 So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.

The Bible likens this to Jesus being hung on the cross. John 3:14-15 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him."

Man had been bitten by his own sins and doomed, dead spiritually and heading to eternity without God. But whoever looks at Jesus on the cross, that is, believe He died for them shall have eternal life. It is not so much about the forgiveness of sin; it is about eternal life. 
When the Israelites looked at the bronze snake it was not forgiveness they received but life. The Bible says "...Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived." -- Numbers 21:9

The end of everything Jesus came to accomplish is eternal life. He came to give us the God-life so we could live like God. We have received forgiveness, we have been brought into the Kingdom but our main focus should be the kind of life we've received and what it made us. 

Eternal life makes you more than a man. Contemplate on this truth and live in the light of it. Herein lies the glory, power and blessings of Christ. 

PRAYER

Thank You Father for the death of your Son Jesus Christ on the cross that I might live. He died my death now I live His life, enjoying all the blessings and glories of divinity, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
