THE PURPOSE OF THE SCRIPTURES

John 5:46 If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. (NIV)

The Lord Jesus made the above statement referring to the law of Moses. He said if you believe the law you would believe me the law wrote about me. Think about that for a moment! When the law said "thou shall not steal." it was a description of Jesus who cannot steal. When it said "thou shall not murder." it was a description of the righteous One who cannot murder. The law wrote about the righteousness of God, Jesus Christ. 

John 1:45 Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote —Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."

The law and even the books of the Prophets were about Jesus. They wrote about His Person and Purpose. But what exactly is the purpose of the scriptures, their writings?
John 5:39-40 You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

The religious leaders of Jesus' day were ardent students of the scriptures, they studied so much and thought they could get eternal life by it. They knew life doesn't end here on earth, they needed something more but didn't know how to get it. And Jesus said, "These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life."

The scriptures is meant to bring man to Christ and receive His life. Anyone who studies the Bible should find Jesus otherwise he hadn't study it. The whole Bible was meant to bring you to Jesus and receive His life. It is about the life that He gives.
As you study the scriptures from Genesis to Revelation learn to find Jesus in the scriptures. That's the essence of the scriptures - Christ. 

CONFESSION

I have found Christ whom the law and Prophets wrote about. And I have found life in Him. This is the essence of the scriptures and I live this life to the full to the glory and praise of the Father, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

Chapter 2 Episode 2 LOVE FULFILS THE LAW Romans 13:8-10 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not covet," and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."
