PERFECTION --- A RESULT OF THE WALK
Genesis 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. (NIV)
God's statement to Abraham in this above scripture is very clear "walk before me, and be thou perfect."
Perfection is a result of a walk with God not a requirement for the walk. God said to Abraham "walk before me, and be thou perfect." He didn't say "be thou perfect, and then walk before me."
Religion says "you have to be perfect in order to serve God or walk with Him." Religion tells us that God requires our perfection in order to serve Him. God did not say so. The light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ tells us what God has done for us that we should follow not what we should do for God.
Anytime perfection is mentioned people get startled and say only God is perfect. But that only God is our life; perfection in our life. Walking with God is walking in perfection. And we become better as we walk with Him. If you study Abraham's walk with God you will discover he gets better in the course of the walk.
In a simple definition, perfection is when something is in the state that it should be. Or doing something as should be done. Perfection is not unattainable. The normal standard of anything is its perfection. When we walk with God we learn from Him how to do things the way they ought to be done, and live life the way we ought to. And that's perfection.
Abraham walked with God and became perfect; he said and did the right things as should, because he learned from God. You can't become perfect first before walking with God because perfection is learned only from a walk with God.
The Bible tells us that Enoch walked with God and was taken out of this world. He was not taken out of this world to walk with God, rather he was taken out because he walked with God. The translation resulted from the walk.
Genesis 5:24 Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.
Instead of focusing on what they call "perfection is impossible" focus on your faithful walk with God and perfection will result from it.
PRAYER
Father I am grateful that you called me into a walk of faith with You. Thank You for all the good, blessings and perfection which results from it. More than ever I am committed to my walk of faith with Him, in Jesus' Name. Amen!
