TURN YOUR FEARS INTO PRAYER
2 Chronicles 20:3 Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the LORD, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah. (NIV)
During the time Jehoshaphat was king over Judah three nations came together to wage war against him and the people of Judah. They mustered together a great army the Israelites could never withstand, Jehoshaphat alarmed, filled with fear resolved to inquire of the Lord, and even declared a fast. Instead of allowing his fears to overwhelm him he turned his fears into prayer. And that's what we ought to do in the face of great opposition.
Let us read 2 Chronicles 20:2-4, Some people came and told Jehoshaphat, "A vast army is coming against you from Edom, from the other side of the Dead Sea. It is already in Hazezon Tamar" (that is, En Gedi). Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the LORD, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah. The people of Judah came together to seek help from the LORD; indeed, they came from every town in Judah to seek him.
Notice, when Jehoshaphat heard the news about the plan of his enemies he didn't look for help from the prominent people of his day. He sought help from God and all the people did the same with him. In this world you will face challenges as Jesus has said. Some troubles may frighten and even threaten our pursuit, position or assignment. But never let fear overcome you. Turn to God in prayer. It is not wrong if you have a feeling of fear, it is only wrong if you do not summon courage to overcome your fears. Learn to turn your fears into prayer, it's the way to overcome fear and be victorious over what you are afraid about.
King Jehoshaphat instead of being intimated by such vast army turn to God in prayer. He prayed and overcame his fears and God answered and came through for him. Don't respond to fear with fear, respond with prayer rather.
2 Chronicles 20:5-6,12 Then Jehoshaphat stood up in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem at the temple of the LORD in the front of the new courtyard and said: "LORD, the God of our ancestors, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you. Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you."
Jehoshaphat acknowledged. "For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you."
It's not wrong to acknowledge your inability, insufficiency and fears to God. It is faith in Him. You don't have to do that before men but you can do that before God. He is your God, your help, sufficiency and ability.
So turn your fears into prayer; talk to the Lord about the impending calamity and He will avert it and give you victory.
PRAYER
Dear Father I have no power against the challenges that surrounds me. I am not sufficient or able in myself but my ability and sufficiency comes from you. You are my courage over fears, and today I say my eyes are on you to win all the battles around me, in Jesus' Name. Amen!
