FINISH THE RACE

Acts 20:24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me —the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. (NIV)

When athletes get into a competitive race they don't win unless they finish the race and compete according to the rules. For everyone of us there is a race marked out, which we must run and finish. The Christian journey is a race. In our opening verse Apostle Paul said "my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me..."
The race and the task is one and the same. The task is to testify to the good news of God’s grace. And that simply means the good things that came through the Gospel of Jesus.

Some people started out well on the race but get distracted along the way and eventually get knocked out. Now they are spectators and on-lookers, they run commentary with the life of other Christians. This shouldn't be you. If you ever fall, don't stay down, don't be on the sideline. Get up, dust yourself and finish the race. The outcome of race is not decided until the first person finish the last lap. And the Christian last lap is not finished until the trumpet sounds. You are not out of the race; you are still on. Get back on track with your vision, plans and passion for the Gospel.

Some people have records of what they have done with the Gospel and for the Kingdom. All they can talk about now is their past records --- how they won souls, heal the sick, raised the dead, cast out demons, took territory for the Kingdom, but didn't finish their race.

At the end of Apostle Paul's race he boldly said "I have finished the race."
2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

When you finish the race you will know. When you have completed your ministry you will know. That's why it's important you understand and define your race and ministry.
Colossians 4:17 Tell Archippus: "See to it that you complete the ministry you have received in the Lord."

It's not enough to receive a ministry, it's not enough to start the race. You must also finish the race in order to have a reward. Examine how far you have come in your Christian journey, where you are in the race, and be resolved, resolute, passionate and inspired to finish the race.

CONFESSION

I am resolved, resolute, passionate and inspired to finish the race. I refuse to get entangled with unnecessary things, I refuse to be distracted. My life is yielded to the course of the Gospel; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me —the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. Amen Hallelujah!
