DON'T RELY ON YOURSELF
2 Corinthians 1:9 Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. (NIV)
The Apostle Paul talked about the hardship him and his missionary team experienced. He said "Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death." It was that tough. Then he added "But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead."
If we have only troubles that are easy for us to solve our faith in God will not grow, and our relationship with Him will not grow either. The reason we have tough times is so that we can prove God's Word in our lives, and rely on God. If you haven't learnt to rely on God tough times will teach you to. Don't rely on yourself.
Learn to rely on God in every situation. Even in situations that seems easy, for which you think you can handle. If you don't learn how to rely on God in seemingly easy situations when you encounter more difficult situation you won't know how to find God. Don't rely on yourself; learn not to rely on yourself.
Apostle Paul faced a life threatening situation, he got to the end of himself. There was nothing he could do. They had concluded it would end in death but God came through and delivered them. Let's read part of his words.
2 Corinthians 1:8-10 We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us,
It happened that they might not rely on themselves but on God. And He delivered them. You don't know maybe the tough times you may be going through is so that you learn not to rely on yourself but on God who raises the dead.
We can never be sufficient in ourselves.
2 Corinthians 3:5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
Our sufficiency is of God. He made us able and capable. We depend on Him. He has delivered us from many deadly peril, and He will deliver us again. On Him we have set our hope that He will continue to deliver us. Amen!
PRAYER
Precious Lord I am grateful that you have delivered me many times from many troubles. On you I set my hope that you will continue to deliver me. I am not sufficient of myself to be or do anything, my sufficiency, adequacy and competence is from you. Amen!
