HIS MERCIES, COMPASSION AND FAITHFULNESS
Lamentations 3:22-23 It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. (NIV)
God's mercies, compassion and faithfulness are integral part of His nature and character. You cannot separate mercies, compassion and faithfulness from God. They are inherent in Him; they are part of His constituents. When God demonstrates His mercies, compassion and faithfulness towards us He is just being Himself, He is not really doing anything more than His usual. On the contrary, He cannot express Himself when there is no one to receive His mercies, compassion and faithfulness.
We are not consumed because God has mercies, compassion and faithfulness in Himself.
His mercies means even though we go on the wrong path or do wrong He is able to forgive, show us love and direct us to the right path.
His compassion means when we suffer whether as a result of our own wrong actions or not He feels sympathy for us and finds a way for us to come out victoriously.
His faithfulness means even when we are unfaithful to His Word He remains faithful to His Word and promises concerning us. His faithfulness means He keeps to His part and play His role in our lives even in our shortcomings.
These three are the reason we are still alive and in a relationship with God; His mercies, compassion and faithfulness.
The Psalmist puts it beautifully giving a voice to Lamentations 3:22-23. In Psalms 145:8 he says "The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love."
To be rich in love means to be rich in mercy -- that's why He is slow to anger. He is compassionate, and He is gracious. His graciousness means His kindness, faithfulness and goodness.
Learning to rely on these and live in the light of them will make your life glorious and victorious. Irrespective of what happens remember His mercies, compassion and faithfulness towards you. Hallelujah!
PRAYER
Father I recognize and acknowledge with thanks your mercies, compassion and faithfulness towards me. I know it is because of your mercies, compassion and faithfulness that I am not consumed, because every day you renew them. Today I lay hold on them again; your mercies, compassion and faithfulness to be blessed and kept, in Jesus' Name. Amen!
