IT'S YOUR DUTY TO PRAY FOR OTHERS
Colossians 4:12-13 Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured. I vouch for him that he is working hard for you and for those at Laodicea and Hierapolis. (NIV)
The Bible tells about Epaphras who always prayed for the Brethren. He was not appointed by the church leaders to be praying for the Brethren. No! It was because he understood the body of Christ and his responsibility to pray for others. And from what the Bible says about him he did not merely pray to fulfill a duty, no! He prayed with passion, persistency, consistency and love. The Bible says "He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured." He was wrestling, contending that the Brethren might stand firm. And Apostle Paul said "I vouch for him that he is working hard for you and for those at Laodicea and Hierapolis."
It was a willing commitment. Not as though he was under compulsion but a genuine desire to see others stand firm in Christ. The responsibility to pray for others is for everyone. Assume your duty to pray for others. Don't wait until someone in the church ask you to pray for him or her. God already asked you to, and you should do it everyday.
Most often we spend time criticizing those who sin or err in the church instead of assuming our duty to pray for them as the Bible says.
1 John 5:16 If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life...
God will give them life in answer to your prayer. So pray for them that they may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.
PRAYER
Lord we pray for as many in the body of Christ who are weak or discouraged, that they may be strengthened by the Holy Spirit in their inner man. We pray that everyone in the Body stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured, in Jesus' Name. Amen!
