THE SCRIPTURES WERE WRITTEN FOR US

Romans 15:4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. (NIV)

The Bible is not a record book; it was not written so that what happened could be kept safe, nor is it a history book -- a mere story of what happened in the past. No! Everything written in the Bible was written for us with a purpose.

Apostle Paul by the Spirit tells us in Romans 15:4 "For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope."
The scriptures was meant to teach and enlighten us so that we could have endurance, encouragement, faith and hope. We do not only learn through the wisdom of the Scriptures but also through the characters (people) and their stories in the scriptures. For example Daniel. We saw the faith Daniel demonstrated in God and refused to yield to the evil law enacted to stop him from praying to the God of Israel. Inspite of the imposed death penalty Daniel never stopped to pray to the God of heaven. And God honored his faith. Reading this story of Daniel's faith inspires faith, courage and hope in us. This is the reason for the scriptures; it was so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope

Apostle John highlighted the same thing for us in his gospel. He pinpointed the reason he wrote the book of John.
John 20:30-31 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

The story of Jesus; his birth, life, death, burial and resurrection was not written for record keeping or mere history reference. It was written for us so that we might read and believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and by believing we might have life in Him.
This tells us that we shouldn't take the scriptures lightly. The Word of God is our life. Unless we yield our all to it we can't be or do what we are destined for. God gave us His Word to make us, and to enable us to do what He called us to do. Give full attention to the Holy scriptures which are able to make you wise unto salvation. 

PRAYER

Thank You Father for given me the Holy scriptures for my salvation, blessings and glory. Thank you for the wisdom, knowledge, understanding, endurance, encouragement, faith and hope taught in the scriptures, and the impact it has on my life, in Jesus' Name. Amen!

(NIV) It's only the fight that you fight till the end that you have a chance of winning. When boxers engaged in a competitive fight they don't win if they quit at the first or second round, and they don't lose if they were defeated in the first or second round. If you fell once or twice or even more you are not defeated if you are willing to continue the fight to the end.
