GUARD AGAINST THE FLESH
Galatians 5:24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. (NIV)
The flesh has its own passions and desires which are contrary to those of the Spirit. Galatians 5:17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.
Though you are born again if you don't guard against the flesh you would find yourself gratifying the desires and passions of the flesh. The body (the flesh) you live in is natural to this world, this world is its natural domain. But your spirit is from above. Your body naturally lives and relates with this world but you will have to consciously and deliberately give attention to your spirit in order to express its nature, desire and passion through your body.
You have to deliberately guard your spirit and life against the flesh and it expressions. How do you guard against the flesh? The Bible says walk by the Spirit. Galatians 5:16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
How do you walk by the Spirit? You walk by the Spirit by walking in the Word. Walking or living in the light of God's truth is walking by the Spirit. When you walk by the truth you are walking in the light and realities of the Spirit of God. And that's the answer to guarding against the flesh. When you walk by the Spirit you walk in the opposite direction of the flesh, and it makes the flesh powerless to control you. So decide to walk by the Spirit always.
CONFESSION
I have crucified the flesh and its passions and desires, therefore I refuse to be controlled by the flesh. I walk consistently by the Spirit and not walk in the direction of the flesh. I give full expression to the will and desire of the Spirit, in Jesus' Name. Amen!
