BEAR FRUIT FOR GOD

 

"So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God." — Romans 7:4 (NIV)

 

Beloved, notice the beautiful sequence in this verse. It does not begin with striving. It does not begin with effort. It begins with a death — and a belonging.

 

First, death. The law once had a claim on you. It said: "Do this, achieve that, be perfect, or face judgment." But through the body of Christ, you died to those rules. The old transaction of earning your standing before God is finished. What is dead cannot be resurrected into obligation — grace has buried it.

 

Second, belonging. "That you might belong to another." Your identity is no longer rooted in performance. It is rooted in Person. You now belong to Him who was raised from the dead — to the living Christ who holds you, not by your output, but by His resurrection power. This is the heart of the New Creation: you are not an improved version of the old self. You are entirely new.

 

Third, fruit. And here is the glorious purpose: "in order that we might bear fruit for God." Fruit is not the foundation — it is the flow. A branch does not produce grapes; the vine does. When you belong to Christ, His life flows through you, and fruit becomes the natural expression of who you are in Him. Fruit under the law was anxiety. Fruit under grace is love.

 

The law could never produce fruit. It could only point. But Christ gives life — and life bears fruit in righteousness, in love, in peace, in excellence, in every sphere of your life.

 

PRAYER

 

Father, thank You that I have died to the law and now belong to the living Christ. Forgive me every time I try to stand on my own works. Keep my eyes on You; my beloved and my source. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit that Your fruit — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-con


trol — may overflow through me today to Your glory. In the mighty Name of Jesus. Amen.
