SET YOUR HEARTS ON THINGS ABOVE

 

Colossians 3:1-2 "Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." (NIV)

 

Paul does not say "set your hearts on things above if you have been raised with Christ." He says "since, then" — because it is already true. Your old position in Adam was buried with Christ; your new life was raised and seated in heavenly places. What the Spirit has established in you, your heart must now mirror.

 

This is where the New Creation lives: not striving to become holy, but abiding in what you already are. Sin, negative circumstance, and failure are foreign to your spirit — they do not belong to your origin, and they do not have to occupy your thoughts. To set your heart on things above is to give your deepest affections their rightful address: Christ, reigning, victorious, and at God's right hand.

 

Earthly things will keep knocking — the news cycle, the market, the noise of man's world. But you have been delivered from the power of darkness, and what you consistently fix your mind on, that which rules you. Let your mind dwell on grace, on authority, on the unshakable realities of your standing in Christ.

 

Set your heart above, and let your whole day be anchored in heaven — for you have already been raised with Christ.

 

Prayer

 

Father, in the name of Jesus, I live in the truth that I am raised with Christ and seated in heavenly places. I turn my heart away from the noise of this earth and fix it above, where Christ reigns. Holy Spirit, guard my thoughts, discipline my affections, and keep my mind anchored in the realities of my new creation. Let heaven rule my day. In Jesus' mighty name, amen.
