THE LORD’S COMING IS NEAR

"Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near." – James 5:7-8 (NIV)

Patience in the Christian life is often misunderstood as doing nothing. But James uses the analogy of the farmer to show us that spiritual patience is highly active. The farmer does not sit idle; he prepares the soil, sows the seed, and guards the crop. Yet, he must wait. He cannot force the harvest. He must wait for the "early and latter rains"—the weather patterns he cannot control, only trust.

The farmer waits because he knows the cycle of nature and the promise of the harvest. Similarly, we wait for the Lord's return not with anxious uncertainty, but with confident expectation. We know the season is moving toward its end. The "latter rain" in a spiritual sense often points to the powerful outpouring of God's glory in these last days—the harvest of souls before Jesus returns.

James adds a crucial instruction: "Be patient and stand firm." The wait can be a time of testing. It is easy to grow weary, to compromise truth, or to drift from holiness when the return of the King seems delayed. But the command is to hold your ground. Do not let the world make you soft. Do not let the delays make you drift. Your steadfastness is the fruit of your expectation.

In the midst of your current waiting—whether for an answer to prayer, a promotion, or a breakthrough—refuse to compromise your standards. Stand firm in your righteousness. Let your patience be a visible testimony of your confidence in the Lord's return.

PRAYER

Lord, teach me the discipline of waiting. Like the farmer, help me to prepare my heart and work with my hands, while trusting You for the increase. I choose to stand firm in my faith, unmoved by the delays of time. I am ready, and I am waiting for the sound of Your return. In Jesus' name, Amen.
