NOT ON YOUR MERIT
Ephesians 2:4-5 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions —it is by grace you have been saved. (NIV)
One of the reasons we struggle to walk in God's perfect will is reliance on our own works and merit. Every man was born a sinner. Through the transgression of Adam sin passed unto every man. Every one sinned and fell short of the glory of God. Some might boast about their moral uprightness. Moral uprightness is not bad, but it is not righteousness. Moral uprightness is living up to the moral standard of a society. Righteousness is living in the standard that grace has brought us into.
People fail in their walk with God because of reliance on merit; some hold onto their religious efforts and moral fit. But every man has deficiency without Christ. Christ alone is man's sufficiency. Amid all our short comings the Bible says "But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions —it is by grace you have been saved."
Three very important things we should hold onto; His great love, His rich mercy and His abundant grace. These are what produced salvation and blessing for us. It is by Grace we have been saved through faith, it is not by our works. It therefore means that it is through these three (His love, mercy and grace) that we can continue walking in God's will and blessings.
Look away from your merit. Maybe you need a change in your life, a change in your finances, peace in your marriage, promotion at work, look away from your merit. It won't happen based on your merit but on His grace.
Life is meant to be lived in the light of His love, in the riches of His mercy and His abundant grace. Praise God!
CONFESSION
I have been saved and blessed not on my own merit but because of His great, rich mercy and abundant grace. I live life as a dispenser of the same; I dispense God's love, mercy and grace to my world, causing the will of the Father to prosper through me, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
