DANCE AND CELEBRATE BEFORE THE LORD
2 Samuel 6:14,16 Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the LORD with all his might, As the ark of the LORD was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, she despised him in her heart. (NIV)
King David so danced before the Lord that his wife Michal despised him. Think about a king dancing so profusely not regarding his crown and the perception of the people with him. That's how a man who is overwhelmed with God's presence, blessings and glory praises God. When you praise God praise Him from your heart, if you are inspired to lift up your hands lift them, if you are inspired to shake your body shake it, if you are inspired to jump and dance do it without regarding the people around and your reputation.
There is a glory that would come on you that will inspire you to jump, dance and sing to the Lord, don't try to resist such moments. It's a move of the Spirit.
When David returned home his wife was angry with him for dancing the way he did.
2 Samuel 6:20 When David returned home to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, "How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, going around half-naked in full view of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!"
David's response to her is truth revealed today. It tells us that our worship, singing, dancing and celebration is before the Lord even though we do it among people.
2 Samuel 6:21-22 David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the LORD’s people Israel —I will celebrate before the LORD. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor."
If dancing and celebrating before the Lord is undignified, then I will become even more undignified as I will dance and celebrate more before the Lord. Those who are careful, trying to be composed when singing to the Lord cannot truly express themselves before the Lord. If the Spirit inspire you to jump then jump, if sing sing, if dance dance, if shout then shout. It might be the very thing of the moment in the spirit.
Look at how Michal who opposed David from dancing before the Lord ended up.
2 Samuel 6:23 And Michal daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death.
You see, there are consequences for resisting or opposing the move of the Spirit in time of worship or praises.
Miriam the Prophet and the women with her knew what it is to sing and dance before the Lord.
Exodus 15:20 Then Miriam the prophet, Aaron’s sister, took a timbrel in her hand, and all the women followed her, with timbrels and dancing.
You can dance in the spirit by your spirit, and when that happens you can express it through your physical body by dancing it out outwardly. When God turns your wailing into dancing you can't choose not to dance. Dancing is a sign of victory.
Psalms 30:11 You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
If God remove your sackcloth and clothes you with joy, would you reject the cloth of joy? In the same way, if God turn your wailing into dancing, would you rather prefer wailing? No! Dance before the Lord even if you look undignified before people.
CONFESSION
I will sing, shout, dance and celebrate before the Lord who blesses me without ceasing. I will dance gloriously before God even if I look undignified before people. He has turned my wailing into dancing, He removed my sackcloth and clothed with joy. I rejoice, sing and dance before the Lord today and always. Hallelujah!
