A DRASTIC CHANGE -- THE WALL OF JERUSALEM

Nehemiah 1:3-4 They said to me, "Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire." When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. (NIV)

In our previous article (yesterday's) we learnt about the drastic change that occurred in the life of Joseph. Today we want to look at the drastic change that happened with the wall of Jerusalem. Jerusalem had been destroyed and its wall and gates brought down, and its people taken into exile except a few. 

The wall of Jerusalem laid in ruins until God laid it the heart of Nehemiah and stirred him up and led him to do something about it. Nehemiah was one of the exiles and was in service to the king as his cupbearer. He pleaded with the king to let him go back to Jerusalem and rebuild the wall, he also asked the king for help, which he granted him by giving him letters to governors of provinces to render him one assistance or the other. 
Nehemiah 2:5 and I answered the king, "If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my ancestors are buried so that I can rebuild it."

Jerusalem was rebuilt because Nehemiah had the burden and a great desire to change the situation. If a people would have a drastic change it starts with a person having a burden for it. Until you are tired of your situation your situation is not tired of you.

Nehemiah had to do something. He traveled to Jerusalem, organized the people who were left and those who returned with him and they began the rebuild of the wall. But there came enemies, Sanballat, Tobiah and their associates. These were enemies of good thing. There are people who will be irritated with your progress and success.
Nehemiah 4:6-9 So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart. But when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites and the people of Ashdod heard that the repairs to Jerusalem’s walls had gone ahead and that the gaps were being closed, they were very angry. They all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it. But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat.

When God use you to rebuild broken lives, devote yourself sincerely, apply integrity of heart, don't extort them and don't be self-centered.
Nehemiah 5:16 Instead, I devoted myself to the work on this wall. All my men were assembled there for the work; we did not acquire any land.

Nehemiah led the rebuild of the wall of Jerusalem and it was completed in just fifty-two days, which could have taken years to complete. It was because they did it with the help of God, which even their enemies realized.
Nehemiah 6:15-16 So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two days. When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God.

The rebuilt wall of Jerusalem was a drastic change. And it happened in a very short time. A whole city had been in ruins and God stirred up Nehemiah from afar and change came. When God lay in your heart and begin to stir you up concerning a person, people or city don't neglect it. Let him use you to bring that drastic change.

PRAYER

Precious Father, lay in my heart, stir me up from within, direct me to a people you want to reach. Use me Lord to answer the cry of many around the world, to rebuild broken lives, homes and destinies, in Jesus' Name. Amen!

Chapter two INSPIRATION Another thing you will find on your way to the Top is inspiration. Inspiration means an arousal or being stir up from within to take an action or embark on a course. If you don't have it getting to the Top is impossible. You will rely on inspiration to go higher and higher in life.
