A DRASTIC CHANGE -- RUTH

Ruth 4:13 So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. When he made love to her, the LORD enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son. (NIV)

Ruth married Mahlon the son of Naomi. He died ten years after and they had no child. Naomi her mother-in-law decided to return to her hometown Judah after she lost her husband and two sons. She persuaded Ruth and her other daughter-law to go back to their respective families. But Ruth insisted she will go with her wherever she went. It was a tough time for Ruth, she could have gone back to her family with the hope to remarry. But she choose rather to go with her poor mother-in-law. A change was coming to her even though she didn't anticipate it, God was working it.
Ruth 1:16 But Ruth replied, "Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.

Finally Naomi gave in to Ruth's insistence and both returned to Judah. Once they have settled in, Ruth was out for greener pastures to cater for herself and her mother-in-law. She went to pick up left over grain in one of the fields and luckily it was Boaz's field. God orchestrates circumstances to change our situation, and it's important we learn to get involved with work and people, because most often God use what we do and the people we meet to change our situation.
Ruth 2:2 And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, "Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor." Naomi said to her, "Go ahead, my daughter."

Ruth found herself in the Boaz's field. When Boaz learned about her being Naomi's daughter-inlaw he spoke very kindly with her and showed her favour.
Ruth 2:9-11 Watch the field where the men are harvesting, and follow along after the women. I have told the men not to lay a hand on you. And whenever you are thirsty, go and get a drink from the water jars the men have filled." At this, she bowed down with her face to the ground. She asked him, "Why have I found such favor in your eyes that you notice me —a foreigner?" Boaz replied, "I’ve been told all about what you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband —how you left your father and mother and your homeland and came to live with a people you did not know before.

The good things we do are not unnoticed. In the course of time they speak volume to our advantage. Ruth was a good person, and it spoke for her.
Another thing we discover about her is that she obeyed her mother-in-law. On the way to change is obedience. If we don't obey instructions given us in the Word and by our spiritual leaders our story may not change.
Ruth 3:5-6 "I will do whatever you say," Ruth answered. So she went down to the threshing floor and did everything her mother-in-law told her to do.

Her mother-in-law adviced her on how to get Boaz's attention so he might marry her. She heeded her advice and did exactly as instructed, she got Boaz's attention. Boaz spoke kindly to her.
Ruth 3:11 And now, my daughter, don’t be afraid. I will do for you all you ask. All the people of my town know that you are a woman of noble character.

On your way to changing the story of your life for better there are people or a person you should take advice from. On your way to changing your story have a good character. Prayer is important but praying without exhibiting a good character may not yield lasting result. Everyone testified about Ruth's good and noble character. If your character is good people will see it.

Eventually Boaz married her, and Ruth who was not able to give birth in the ten years of her previous marriage became pregnant and gave birth to a son. Her story changed. God changed it, but she played her part. As you pray to God to change your story look for your role and play it.
Ruth 4:13 So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. When he made love to her, the LORD enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son.

PRAYER

Dear Father I am thankful and excited about the possibility of a change in my life. Through obedience to your Word and doing what I should I change my story for better, in Jesus' Name. Amen!
