DON'T BE UNCONCERNED ABOUT OTHERS
Ezekiel 16:49 "’Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. (NIV)
Someone might say "I work hard for my money, why should I help people with it? And how is it a sin if I don't help?"
God said this was the sin of Sodom -- she and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help others. Being unconcerned about the plight of other people is a sin. Refusing to help when in a position to help is a sin. God expects you to be concerned about the sufferings of other people whether or not they are related to you.
God brought you here so He could do things through you, reach other people through you, bless and uplift them. It is a sin if you do not allow Him to fulfill this purpose through you. And for Him to fulfill His purpose through you, you must first have a soft heart toward others. Don't be unconcerned, unsympathetic and unmoved by the sufferings of others. It is inhuman to be that way. Even those who are not born again have a sympathetic feeling towards fellow humans.
Jesus was concerned about us, He empathized with our weaknesses. That's why He became the solution for our problem.
Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are —yet he did not sin.
Don't be arrogant, overfed and unconcerned. When you are well-fed remember those who have nothing to feed on. Don't turn your heart away from the needy, when you help them God takes notice and will reward you in due time. To man it might not seem a sin if you don't help, but God says it is a sin if you don't help those you should. So continually open your hand to the needy and be a blessing.
PRAYER
Father you have helped and enabled me to help those in need. You have given me a heart that is concerned and willing to help and share with the needy. Today I open not only my hand to help but also my heart. I give and help others according to my ability, in Jesus' Name. Amen!
